"Father...regrets...?"

All right, first on a kinda random note, I went to see V for Vendetta last night (mini review to come) and they showed a preview for Dante Basco's new movie, and it totally freaked me out and made me even more hyped for the premier, which was waiting for me on my trusty VHS tape at home.

Anyway, onto my thoughts of the Avatar State!

How adorable was happy-going-home-smiley "Zuzu"? Broke me heart, poor guy.

A big fat YES to the (implied) confirmation that that was Iroh resting his hand on Zuko's shoulder in the flash back. Good to know Ozai didn't used to be a nice, loving father, which just wouldn't have worked for me. But, Iroh! God, I love Iroh.

Azula's perfect. And I'm interested to learn more about those twin hags she's dragging around with her.

Let me just say that attempt to get Aang into the avatar state involving the ceremonial clothes and combination of elements really amused me up for some reason. That guy presiding over it cracked me up.

Love that the avatar's greatest strength is also his/her greatest weakness. Also, squee for seeing all those past avatars.

And, oh, they cut their hair! Love that too. (Even if Zuko's patch does look a little wonky, and Iroh's new 'do has yet to be seen.)

As for the next week's preview, ehh. Anti kaang, or whatever the name is, however, the creators will do what the creators will do and so be it. From a zutarian perspective, I'm actually kinda hoping they do kiss b/c, since the chances of them actually becoming a couple at this point are slim, it could mean that the reason they aren't together is related to the kiss. But if they don't kiss, which would most likely be due to an interruption of some sort, it means they might have gotten together had they kissed and will most likely get together/kiss on a later date. (Follow my logic? No? Oh, well.) If they do kiss I will thoroughly weirded out for several reasons. I mean, I don't necessarily dislike kaang, I've just never felt it. And Katara's "what if we kissed?" is just random and seems out of character (though I suppose I could have her character wrong.) (If I were a Kaang fan, I'd feel cheated by the lameness of the set uo, though.) And then there's the sort of maternal thing Katara's been doing and the fact Aang looks so young. I know 12 year olds do all sorts of things nowadays (and did when I was 12, though coming from a small town and small school, they weren't going on where I lived. But in the next town over, man, did I hear things...) If they do intend to make Kaang cannon, as I presume they do, they're gonna have to work really hard to sell it.

That said my main object to next weeks episode has nothing to do with shipping. I'm more concerned that it looks to be a filler "fluff" episode and at this point in the narrative, I'm more concerned with what Iroh and Zuko plan to do next and less so with the trio's stuck-in-a-cave escapades. Hm, random thought: I wonder if Appa goes into the caves too...Wonder if he'd fit...
