New and Positive
So, having slept and immersed myself in horrifically boring things like term papers this morning, I believe I have finally calmed down enough to be some what coherent...
Opening fight to the Earth King was beyond amazing. Toph+Aang earthbending was such love. And Katara's moves impressed, to say the least. And I can't really remember what Sokka was doing, but I'm sure he was being awesome in his own way too. (Poor, non-bending Sokka...)
Y'know, I was wondering how they were going to ride on Appa sans a saddle. Cling to the fur!
I was actually rather "meh" about everything concerning the Earth King himself, but 'tis fine. And I do like the bear.
"Long Feng is long gone," oh, Sokka! How I love thee!
Zuko's dreams: At first I kinda thought scar-free Firelord Zuko was Ozai. "Gah! Are they showing us Ozai?! But he looks kinda young... And kinda like Zuko--symmetrical!Zuko. And there's no facial hair. ...! It IS Zuko!"
And Iroh, metamorphosis? Really? The beautiful prince he's supposed to be? Really Those lines kinda produced some sort of snort-"Awww!" hybrid.
Regarding the state of Ursa: It's feeling to me rather like she's dead. Didn't the Azula dragon say something to the extent that she was asleep? Or Zuko should join his mother in sleep...or something like that? And then Zuko's comment to Katara... At any rate, and judging by that comment alone, it seems he's going to find out more about her fate sometime before getting sent to the Zutara cave.
Oh, Azula, you sneaky, sneaky little girl. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SUKI? ... I'm going to assume they've got the Kyoshis imprisoned somewhere. (Because, seriously, Sokka's going to turn into a nut job if every chick he hooks-up with winds up dead.) Perhaps they've shipped them off to the Fire Nation and rescuing them will be on the gaang's agenda for Season 3.
Awww, the family's split up. Can't wait to see the Sokka-Hakoda reunion! (So nice of Katara, but of course she needs to stay so as to fullfill the plot-device...) And Aang-Guru! And, yay, for him finally learning how to control that damn Avatar state. Poor kid, though. Almost got the confession out. Maybe the third time will be a charm, eh? Although...I really don't know if I see things going down the way he'd want them to...
The irony of Aang and Sokka's last scene... Yeah, there are girls waiting for you...but they're Ozai's Angels. And Sokka's lady is...most likely...not well. And Katara's going to be off bonding with Zuko. Sokka, you've jinxed the both of you! (Although, my inner-Taang shipper is hoping there *is* a girl waiting for Aang...and in need of him, just not the one he expects.)
Speaking of Toph, poor Toph. Although, I don't know why people are saying she'll leave the show. She just needs a little rescuing!
So, yes, the episode on the whole wasn't anything spectacular, but the ending has given the finale such a set up, I don't know how they'll ever be able to cover everything in an hour.
And that brings me to SPAZZ! time: You know, you try to be sane and maintain a level head in regard to shipping. You really do because you are--basically--a grown woman, and it's just a show, and they're just animated characters. It's hard (b/c you are, after all, a twelve-year-old nerdy, geeky, loser fangirl at heart), but you still try. And then they go throwing things like this at you, and you completely lose it. Seriously, I'd agreed to maintain a guarded optimism for the finale (what with synopsis-es [synopsi?] and all that), but that preview has managed to kill every last one of my sentries. And now I'm just optimistic. And this isn't good. Must keep hopes down. Must keep... Oh, the hell with it!
SQUEEEEEEEE! Because we have to get some kind of an argument and/or emotional repartee to cause Katara's breakdown. And then we know there must be Mommy-issue-bonding. And then something to prompt what appears to be the attempt to rid Zuko of his scar. (And here I was content to giggle at Zuko's water craving--because you have to love hints that so are not hints at all and yet so totally are, lol!) And, by GOD! She freakin' touching his scar!
As for the actually ridding of the scar itself, I don't know. As much as I love the symbolism behind it (both shippy and not), and the fact that Katara's using the water from the oasis (the oasis where they fought; the oasis of yin and yang; their oasis--er, if you will), it'll be beyond weird to see Zuko without it (in a non-trippy dream). Part of me can see it not working. Or rather, part of me could see it not working right away. It might take time for it to heal, which would also prevent us from having a one-eyebrowed Zuko. (Suddenly, I picture him with one drawn on ala Uncle Leo in that one episode of Seinfeld.)
Furthermore, I had been wondering: *if* Zuko joins the gaang and *if* they're going into the Fire Nation *if* Zuko would somehow disguise his scar. I mean, if people are changing their hair to sneak in and attempt to be stealth, Zuko's scar could be a give away. I had him doing something with his ever growing hair...or wearing make-up (lol, I know.) So it might make sense for Katara to heal it. And the preview for the Earth King said Zuko's dreams were supposed to predict strange things. Aang-ifacation of Zuko aside, maybe he is going to lose the scar... And hey, I just find it hysterical that this actually seems likely now. I can remember people suggesting this the first time we found out Katara had healing powers and then again when she was given the Oasis Water of Magic (tm). They were typically shot down, often with prejudice. ...And I just find it amusing that this fan theory could come to fruition.
At any rate, hurray for Zutara images that aren't manips and love triangle (maybe!) ftw! Come on, Dec. 1st! Squee.
Edit: I forgot to mention how utterly hilarious I find preview-Zuko's pants. Seriously.
And I just love the image of them sitting far apart and with their backs to each other. It's just...so...perfect! (I really am a nerdy, geeky, loser fangirl, aren't I?)
