So classes have begun again. Bleh. I'm totally not in the mood to be studious and productive. I need another week of bumhood. At least most of my classes sound interesting, with the exception of Spanish but, hey, languages aren't my thing. I'd like them to be my thing--languages--b/c I'd love to be able to speak them and read them all that great stuff, but they just...aren't. I've been studying Spanish for almost six years, and while I am able to understand the Spanish in the manual to my DVD player, I've yet to comprehend the exact plot of one measly soap opera on the Spanish channel. (In one of them I think a priest might have been a father of his parishioner's kids, but I couldn't figure out whether they were calling him father in a paternal sense or using itas a title.) As for speaking it...ahahaha...yeah...no, totally can't.

I've also always wanted to learn Irish. I bought a book and cassette set once, but had to abandon it when I discovered that I'd couldn't understand the speakers on the tape. It always sounded like they were saying "dee-a-hoit" for "dia duit" (spelling from memory), but then in the book it said a "d" in Irish was pronounced like a "g" in English. Which the hell is it? I didn't know... Then, like a year ago I got a computer program, which I was actually doing pretty well with...y'know... learned the numbers, yes/no, etc. But, really, it was just teaching me random vocab words and not how to speak the language...so not exactly what I wanted... And I've no idea why I'm writing about this, so I'm going to stop. Before I go, though, I have a quiz, the result of which was the original purpose of this post...

CARDINAL: Some might call you proud, some might
call you shy, some wouldn't notice you at all
but that's all right by you. You're reserved,
and content to be an enigma to all but your
very closest friends.
The Cardinal Bird
William Davis Gallagher
Date unknown

A day and then a week passed by:
The redbird hanging from the sill
Sang not; and all were wondering why
It was so still--
When one bright morning, loud and clear,
Its whistle smote my drowsy ear,
Ten times repeated, till the sound
Filled every echoing niche around;
And all things earliest loved by me,--
The bird, the brook, the flower, the tree,--
Came back again, as thus I heard
The cardinal bird.
