...but I think that kid might be the Avatar." Right so, Kataang-ness aside, last night's episode of avatar was great: the hippies + Sokka = such love! And the Zuko-Iroh interraction was at its best. And people are shipping Zuko and that earth-kingdom-sue chick? What's up with that? I guess the kataang people like it...? Maybe...? I'd kinda just thought she was there to put a human face on the war for Zuko, but...eck...if she is supposed to be some sort of romantic interest, I stand most adamently oppposed. I can deal with Katara/Aang, but Zuko/Earth-Kingdom-Sue, not so much. He doesn't need her pity.
And, dude, I can just see the writers or whoever sitting around.
Person 1: Okay, let's go ahead and move on with the Aang-Katara romance.
Person 2: What? This is gonna cause major uproar in the fandom. You know how many Zuko-Katara fans there are? It seems like they outnumber the Aang-Katara people by a fair margin.
Person 1: No problem. We'll just stick in some random symbolism. Those Zuko-Katara people eat that stuff right up.
Person 2: Like what?
Person 1: I know! We'll throw in a story about lovers from two waring nations and dress them in red and blue.
Person 2: You're a genius!
And thus Zutara was appeased--for now.

Edit: Upon further investigating fandom's reactions, I'm at a loss as to why Zuko stealing the horse-bird opens up a return for the earth-chick. Seems more likely we'd see her again with something having to do with Zula tracking the fugitive duo. At the very least it could be something like the string of character reocurrence we saw in Bato. At the most, and completely cringe-worthiest, she and her mother get arrested or something like that and Zuko saves them... Ah, well, time will tell I suppose. And maybe, if we do see her again, she'll have grown on me. It's been known to happen before.
Also, people who are saying she's done what Zutarians wanted Katara to do are wrong as far as I'm concerned. I kinda always saw Katara yelling at him as opposed to being all "You've been hurt, now let me touch your scar!" That, and if one is to say she's doing the Katara thing, I guess that would make them Zutara minus all the cool opposites-but-equals-fire-and-ice symbolic stuff. And, of course, it's that, the opposites-fire-ice stuff, that made me start shipping Zutara. (I mean really, actually shipping it. Or rather, actually caring which way things went. I'd glibly called that they'd wind up together during the premier, but I didn't really start shipping them until a couple episodes in, after I started thinking about it and how awesome it would be!) I can remember seeing some sort of Draco-Ginny icon that was like "Of fire and ice" or something similar. I've wanted a fire-ice ship ever since. Tear. I'm never gonna get it, am I? **mourns**
