I Am Killing You

So, I saw The Departed last night. 'Twas very, very good. **resists urge to go on a "Scorcesebetternotgetrobbedagaintthisyear" rant** It was definately more in line with his older, grittier films. And I liked that. I'd a friend who'd seen it and said Jack Nicholson dominated the screen, but I'm inclined to disagree. In my opinion, Leonardo DiCaprio owned the movie. I mean, Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson. He's always like that. You expect it. You accept it. It's good. But Leonardo DiCaprio was just sooo intense, it was amazing. I'm gonna say it. He deserves an Oscar nom and I will be pissed if he does not get it. I'm glad he's turned out to be the sort of actor he is. Matt Damon was, of course, brilliant as well. I was reading a Time Magazine interview thing with "Jack, Matt, Leo, and Marty" and it mentioned how he (Damon) doesn't really play bad guys that often, so I suppose it should have seemed odd to see him in an antagonistic role, but it wasn't. He just plays a dick so well. As does Alec Baldwin. Oh, and I really like Mark Wahlberg (and his character) in this movie.
Anyway, the execution and direction was beautiful and very well done. The plot worked. I remember really enjoying some of the mes en scene and camera angles, though now I really can't remember what they were and that makes me sad. Well, except for one thing, but that...and everything else I have to say about the film is a
Yeah, Jack Nicholson's shirt (when he died) just simply saying Irish amused me.
I can't remember the last time I've seen a movie where they just kill like everybody. That was awesome. (Partially sad--okay some like Martin Sheen, very sad--but mostly awesome.) Of course, the previews ruined Mark Wahlberg killing Matt Damon. They show him shooting a gun. As the movie comes to a close and everyone is dead, you know he's going to be shooting Matt. Ah, well.
Didn't see Leo's death coming. I mean, even though I wanted it to end happily for him, I knew it wasn't since this just isn't that kind of movie, but still...
I will forever maintain the shrink's baby is Leo's. And as a side note, I kinda liked how it just skipped over the events that moved them from standing at opposite ends of the room to suddenly right next to each other and in make-out to sex territory. Usually, I'd want to know what transpired in between, but for some reason I didn't feel that it was necessary.
...And that is all...for now...
